Many common conditions such as headaches, difficulty concentrating, cramps, joint and muscle pain, nausea, hypertension, osteoporosis, and halitosis may have a common cause like a PH imbalance of our body, also known as metabolic acidosis.
Orienting our body towards a slightly alkaline tendency can help to balance its state of well-being.
Our PH reflects the diet we follow. Ideally it should be just above 7.
AN UNHEALTHY DIET RICH IN ACIDIC FOODS HAS A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON OUR BODY THAT WILL CONTINUALLY WORK TO MAINTAIN A HOMEOSTASIS LEVEL AS IT WILL TRY TO EXTRACT ALKALIZING NUTRIENTS FROM THE ORGANS AND BONES THUS IMPOVERISHING THEM.
What happens to our body when we consume too many foods with an acidic PH?
Long-term diet rich in acidifying foods, such as meat, refined sugars and carbohydrates, can provide the ideal environment for the proliferation of certain types of bacteria and related pathologies.
In particular, some immune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis are often favoured by an excessively acidic diet and can therefore benefit greatly from an alkaline-based diet.
Alkalinity also creates an unfavourable environment for the development and proliferation of tumour cells [link to scientific study].
So what do we eat?
Raw vegetables (excluding tomatoes and a few others), whenever possible, or, if cooked, preferably in steam, fresh seasonal fruit (with the exception of dried fruits and others like plums, blueberries, etc).
To helps us optimize the alkalinizing properties of raw fruit and vegetables it is advisable to consume part of them as fresh juices using a good juice extractor.
If our body is into a healing state is a good idea to consume about 80% of alkaline foods and 20% of acidifying foods and avoiding as always, refined sugars, additives, coffee, spirits and carbonated drinks.
Also consuming slightly alkaline mineral water can help optimize body functions and detoxify us.
Stress and negativity unfortunately also have an effect on our body, favouring metabolic acidosis.
YOGA AND MEDITATION ARE TWO USEFUL WEAPONS TO HELP US REDUCE THESE EMOTIONAL TOXINS.
It’s important to remember that in any situation of stress or depression the cure is within ourselves, as is the ability and strength to orient our body towards healing.

THE ULTIMATE ALKALINE JUICE
- 3 carrots
- 2 cucumbers
- 1 handful of cabbage leaves
- 1 handful of curly kale
- 3 cm of ginger root
Cut the carrots into strips
Cut the cucumbers lengthwise
Peel the ginger
Alternate the ingredients in the juice extractor
Start with the curly kale, cabbage and then all the other ingredients, leaving the carrots last. In this way the carrots will help to push out the fibres accumulated in the extractor, thus facilitating the cleaning. Mix the juice well and drink immediately.
BENEFITS OF THE INGREDIENTS USED IN THIS RECIPE AND LINKS TO THE STUDIES
Carrots provide high vitamin A content and a number of other beneficial health benefits, particularly for the skin, the prevention of certain cancers and even acts as a natural anti-aging.
Benefits to the eyes
Yes, our grandmothers knew it all.. carrots are great for our eyes! Why?
Carrots are rich in beta-carotene that converts into vitamin A in our liver.
Vitamin A, also known as “retinol”, acts on the retina and its deficiency can cause visual disturbances and reduced night vision. [Link to scientific study]
Studies on beta-carotene have been performed on the protection against macular degeneration and senile cataracts.
Some studies have shown that carrots reduce the risk of lung, breast and colon cancer.
Falcarinol is a natural pesticide produced by the carrot that serves to protect its roots from fungal diseases. One study observed a reduced risk of cancer in rats that consume carrots, thanks to this element.
Betacarotene has also been associated with a protective and anti-tumour effect for the ovaries.
Slows down aging
High levels of beta-carotene in carrots act as an antioxidant and can help slow down cellular aging.
Possible help for the prevention of heart disease
Research shows that high-fruit and vegetable intakes are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, due to their antioxidant content, vitamins, minerals, fibre and carotenoids.
Vitamin A helps the liver to remove the toxins from the body and the fibre helps to keep the colon clean and promotes motility.
Benefits to our hormones
Recent studies have shown that cucumbers contain powerful lignans that bind with oestrogen-related bacteria in the digestive tract, thereby helping to reduce the risk of various cancers, such as breast, uterine, ovary and prostate cancer.
Cucumbers are a food rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, C, K, magnesium, silicon, potassium and manganese. They also contain a high amount of antioxidants and enzymes such as erepsin, which helps digest the proteins and destroy parasites, especially tenia, thus carrying out a protective action on the intestinal tract.
Researchers at the University of Valencia in Spain have discovered that they contain phytonutrients called “cucurbitacine” that studies demonstrate to have anti-cancer properties as they can lead to the death of cancerous cells.
Cucumbers consist of 95% water, they promote diuretic action and help dissolve uric acid deposits that favour the formation of kidney stones.
Useful in preventing certain types of migraines
As cucumbers are a highly hydrating food, they have been used as a natural remedy against headaches. This is because one of the possible triggers for migraines is dehydration and many studies show that foods containing high-water content as well magnesium, such as cucumbers, have a re-balancing effect on body fluids.
Finally, cucumbers have a detoxifying and soothing action on the intestinal tract, so it is indicated for conditions such as gastritis, acidity, indigestion and ulcers.
The electrolytes contained in the cucumber make sure that the hydratying action reaches deep into cells and tissues.
Curly kale is a precious food containing a lot of fibre, a valuable ally for our intestinal tract.
It is also rich in nutrients, vitamins, folate and magnesium.
Regular fibre consumption has been shown to be able to reduce cortisol, the main stress hormone, stabilize insulin and blood sugar, and lower the bad oestrogen.
Rich in nutrients
Curly kale is rich in vitamin C and iron, essential for the formation of haemoglobin and enzymes, oxygen transport to various parts of the body, cell growth and liver function.
This food also contains calcium and vitamin K, necessary for bone health and for proper blood clotting, as well as antioxidants, such as carotenoids and flavonoids, which help protect you from various types of cancer.
The anti-inflammatory properties of this variety of kale are due to omega-3 fatty acids, which help fight arthritis, asthma, and disorders resulting from reduced immune defence.
The content of fibre and sulphur makes curly kale a good detoxifying food, helping in this way to keep the liver healthy.
Natural Anti-cancer Properties
Another precious substance contained in curly kale, as well as in other plants belonging to the cruciferous family, is sulforaphane. Studies have shown that this valuable phytochemical helps to fight the formation of tumours at molecular level. [Find study1 here] [Find study2 here]
Ginger is one of the oldest and most widely used medicinal spices in the world.
This root is known not only for its digestive and anti-inflammatory properties, but it is also used to prevent colds, flu and nausea.
Ginger contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds called gingeroli and exerts an analgesic action useful for those who suffer from joint and muscular pain.
Studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in fighting Escherichia coli, Staphylococcal and Candida albicans infections.
Anti-tumor properties, beneficial effects on vascular disorders, diabetes mellitus and gastrointestinal health
In addition, as noted in the International Journal of Preventive Medicine study entitled “Anti-inflammatory Ginger Antioxidant Effects in Health and Physical Activity: An Up-to-Date Review of Evidence”, it is cited:
“Ginger anticancer potential is well-documented and its functional components such as gingerols and shogaols are the precious ingredients that can prevent different types of cancer, angiogenesis and metastasis, induction of apoptosis and inhibition of progression of the cell cycle.
It also improves cardiovascular disorders, diabetes mellitus and gastrointestinal health. ”
