Many common conditions such as headaches, difficulty concentrating, cramps, joint and muscle pain, nausea, hypertension, osteoporosis, and halitosis may have a common cause like a PH imbalance of our body, also known as metabolic acidosis.
Orienting our body towards a slightly alkaline tendency can help to balance its state of well-being.
Our PH reflects the diet we follow. Ideally it should be just above 7.

What happens to our body when we consume too many foods with an acidic PH?
Long-term diet rich in acidifying foods, such as meat, refined sugars and carbohydrates, can provide the ideal environment for the proliferation of certain types of bacteria and related pathologies.
In particular, some immune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis are often favoured by an excessively acidic diet and can therefore benefit greatly from an alkaline-based diet.
Alkalinity also creates an unfavourable environment for the development and proliferation of tumour cells [link to scientific study].
So what do we eat?
Raw vegetables (excluding tomatoes and a few others), whenever possible, or, if cooked, preferably in steam, fresh seasonal fruit (with the exception of dried fruits and others like plums, blueberries, etc).
To helps us optimize the alkalinizing properties of raw fruit and vegetables it is advisable to consume part of them as fresh juices using a good juice extractor.
Cucumbers are often used in detox or alkaline juices, they contain powerful lignans that bind with oestrogen-related bacteria in the digestive tract, thereby helping to reduce the risk of various cancers, such as breast, uterine, ovary and prostate cancer. They also contain high amount of water and promote diuretic action helping to dissolve uric acid deposits that favour the formation of kidney stones.
If our body is into a healing state is a good idea to consume about 80% of alkaline foods and 20% of acidifying foods and avoiding as always, refined sugars, additives, coffee, spirits and carbonated drinks.
Also consuming slightly alkaline mineral water can help optimize body functions and detoxify us.
Stress and negativity unfortunately also have an effect on our body, favouring metabolic acidosis.

THE ULTIMATE ALKALINE JUICE
- 3 carrots
- 2 cucumbers
- 1 handful of cabbage leaves
- 1 handful of curly kale
- 3 cm of ginger root
Cut the carrots into strips
Cut the cucumbers lengthwise
Peel the ginger
Alternate the ingredients in the juice extractor
Start with the curly kale, cabbage and then all the other ingredients, leaving the carrots last. In this way the carrots will help to push out the fibres accumulated in the extractor, thus facilitating the cleaning. Mix the juice well and drink immediately.
