Fancy healthy chips? Crunchy Curly Kale!


I have been turning fruit into gummies, cashew butter into cookies, coconut milk into yoghurt and vegetables into chips!

I love dehydrating foods and here are just a few reasons why!


Something amazing happens to the flavour once all the water has been dried out, and the fruit and veg get such an INTENSE flavour!


Let’s be honest. Dehydration offers something different in the healthy snack category.

My daughter loves her fruit rolls which I have prepared in about 10 different variations, for tomorrow it’s apple-cinnamon on the menu!

These types of snacks are also obviously easy to bring with you on a day out.


Something is always in season!  The best bargains in produce are usually found when a particular fruit or vegetable is in season. Farmer’s markets, pick-your-own-produce farms and others often offer great bargains.  You can transform all that fresh goodness into dehydrated versions at a cost far less than commercially dehydrated foods.

Oh and without the nasties. You know, added sugars, preservatives and such.


Food dehydration is truly simple!  No gadgets to put together and dismantle, minimal washing required to keep it clean. What’s not to love?


This is the part I like. If you use low temperatures, dehydrated foods don’t lose their nutritional value and maintain water soluble vitamins and minerals.  And let’s face it, aside from fresh food, on a supermarket snack shelf, when it comes to nutrition labels the choice is pretty poor.


Today’s recipe is so easy and healthy and best of all most kids love it!

Curly kale, a member of the cabbage family, has distinctive dark green leaves which are rather tough and fibrous.

While there are several ways to cook this superfood, the most popular way in my family is dehydrating it, because it magically turns into chips!


Why curly kale?

Curly kale is a precious food containing a lot of fibre, a valuable ally for our intestinal tract.

It is also rich in nutrients, vitamins, folate and magnesium.

Regular fibre consumption has been shown to be able to reduce cortisol, the main stress hormone, stabilize insulin and blood sugar, and lower the bad oestrogen.
